Karamaz Tomb Hidden Excerpt 1/8
Evil from Behind
It was a cold and foggy night. The weather had changed during the day, bringing fresh air up from the highlands. There were few students around and all wore their cloaks with their hoods up to avoid the chill.
Ganzario suddenly got the feeling that something was wrong. Something or someone was following him. This feeling had never been so clear before. He sensed malign intentions directed towards him. It was like a cold blade pressed into his spine.
He spun around and scanned the path behind him and saw several cloaked and hooded figures on his tail. He kept walking and gradually increased his pace. He could still feel the evil behind him and his heart began to pound. When the path bent to the right he took the opportunity and snapped a quick look over his right shoulder. There was only one person still following him. A man, tall and heavily built, and from the quick look that Ganzario got, he judged him to be obese although probably very strong. The sense of evil grew thicker and more powerful than before.
The footsteps at his back came quicker. Ganzario yet again increased his speed, but he knew he had no chance to outrun the man. He desperately prayed that someone would appear who could sound the alarm. But it was cold and late and there was nobody nearby. Ganzario felt a deep rush of fear and in desperation focused all of his thoughts on the man behind him.

In the Fog
Ganzario felt more and more uneasy, but he did not know whether to fight or to flee. He didn’t know how to fight something he couldn’t see, or even which way to run; so they kept waiting. The sun inched higher in the sky, but instead of lifting, the fog became denser. It was unnatural. He opened his mouth to say exactly that to Tyhr, when the mist right in front of them suddenly coalesced into a strange shape. Only for a split second, but Tyhr had seen it too. They both snapped a wide-eyed glance at each other. The air around them stirred ominously and Ganzario shivered. Again the fog began to thicken right in front of them. It slowly swirled into a giant death’s-head, ten feet across, from eye to eye. Tyhr drew his sword and with a nervous roar, darted forward and slashed at it. The blade cut right through the skull, but it immediately reformed the second his blade had passed. The fog rolled back into a lipless grin and cynical laughter echoed all around them. Ganzario’s skin was covered in goosebumps.

They Moved Like Lightening
Ganzario fled. The driving rain was like a million silver bees stinging his face. The deluge blinded his eyes and turned the earth into mud. Knee deep he struggled on, casting fearful glances behind him. He knew they were close. Every stride was a nightmare; one wrong step meant death.
He waded frantically through the bog, scrambling to his feet every time he fell, never stopping. Then he saw them.
They moved like lightening...
With claws like knives they pinned him into the choking mud. He could do nothing but struggle to keep his face above the surface.
